Make a day or two of it in DeLand

Authentic Old Florida

Make a day of it!  When you plan your trip to the Mansion be sure you allow time to visit authentic Old Florida.  Just a mile and a half away is quaint downtown DeLand, "New England in Florida." Click for Upcoming Events to find out what shows, street fairs or festivals coincide with the day of your Mansion tour.

Drive by charming turn of the century homes on Minnesota St and see the campus of Florida's oldest private university on Woodland Blvd.  Park your car.  Stroll down main street and shop for antiques or unique gifts at places like the multi dealer vintage mall at Marketplace at Rivertown and the Quilt shop of Deland. Take in a show at the Athens Theater. Sip a glass of craft beer at Abbey or SONY Trading Market, Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co,or enjoy 2-4-1 cocktails before lunch or dinner at Byte Bistro.

**Taste the most delicious confections at Sweet Things. Mansion guests need only show their ticket or reservation for a wonderful free chocolate covered strawberry!

For the best Key Lime pie in America, a 5 minute drive to Kermit's Key Lime Pie Shoppe will be well worth the trip. Groups may book a free tour. The pies are made right there along with dozens of other key lime specialty products. Nearby is Blue Springs where dozens of Manatees huddle on cold mornings in the warmer waters of the springs. This natural wonder is on the St. John River  where river tours are like looking through a window into our past.

If you are looking for thrills, jump out of a plane. DeLand is the regional capital of skydiving.

Just 12 miles north of downtown DeLand on Woodland Blvd (SR17) is the Barberville Pioneer Settlement at the intersection of SR40. This ia a wonderful collection of historic buildings and it has many festivals each year. You can't get more authentic than a real functioning blacksmith shop!
